Fudge Cake

Bar

1/3 c. shortening

1 c. sugar

1/2 t. vanilla extract

2 squares (2 oz.) unsweetned chocolate, melted and cooled

1 egg

1 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour

1/2 t. soda

1/2 t. salt

1/2 c. semisweet chocolate pieces

9 walnut halves

DIRECTIONS:

Cream shortening and sugar til light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla and cooled chocolate. Add egg, beating well. Sift together flour, sode and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with 3/4 c. water, beating after each asddition. Spread batter in greased and lightly floured 9x9x2 inch baking pan. Sprinkle with cholate chips. Arrange walnuts over top. Bake in moderate over (350 degrees) about 30 minutes or until bake springs back when touched in center. Cool in pan.
