Originally built in 1860, Mt. Hope was "rebuilt" in 1923. The church is listed on the Maryland Historic Sites Inventory (CT-375).

The original Patuxent Chapel was built in 1883 to house the congregation of African American worshipers. In 1893 the church was destroyed by fire & rebuilt.
